Labor & Delivery Visitation Information
Visitation during labor:
- A support person designated by the patient may be present at all times unless asked to leave at the discretion of the nurse or physician (i.e. during placement of the epidural).
- A maximum of 2 other visitors may be present in the labor room at the same time.
- The patient’s other child(ren) may visit if accompanied by an adult.
- The total number of visitors for each patient is dependent upon the situation at the time, the condition of the patient and events occurring in the L&D unit at the time, and left to the discretion of the nurse and/or physician.
- Visitors will not wait in the hallway.
- Children must be ≥ 12 years of age, with the exception of siblings, to visit in L&D.
Visitation during delivery:
- A support person designated by the patient may be present during delivery at the discretion of the nurse or physician.
- Two other visitors designated by the patient may be present for the delivery.
- Exceptions may be made to the number of persons at delivery at the direction of the physician dependent upon the situation at the time, the condition of the patient and events occurring in the L&D at the time and/or the discretion of the nurse.
- Siblings may attend deliveries if accompanied by an adult other than the mother’s support person. Siblings may be taken to the waiting area by this adult if necessary.
- Visitors not attending the delivery will not wait in the hallway.
Attendance at Cesarean sections:
- A support person designated by the patient is allowed to attend a cesarean section.
- Visitors will not wait in the hallway.
Visitation during Recovery:
- Visitation during recovery will be at the discretion of the nurse and/or physician.
- If visitation is indicated:
- The support person designated by the patient may be present at all times unless asked to leave at the discretion of the nurse or physician.
- A maximum of 2 other visitors may be present in the recovery room at the same time.
- The patient’s other child(ren) may visit if accompanied by an adult.
- The total number of visitors for each patient is dependent upon the situation at the time, the condition of the patient and events occurring in the L&D unit at the time, and left to the discretion of the nurse and/or physician.
- Visitors will not wait in the hallway.
